CANADA

The Canadians are to be admired for their beautiful caribou memorial statues and their efforts to preserve trenches that allow us all to get some kind of idea of what fighting in the Great War was all about. Visitors from all countries are encouraged to visit these amazing sites.

The caribou statues can be found in  three different departments (states). In the Somme  go to Beaumont Hamel and Gueudecourt. Beaumont Hamel is a beautiful memorial park with a visitors’ centre and preserved trenches and battlefield areas. In the Pas-de Calais go to Monchy-le -Preux and Vimy. Vimy has another well-run memorial park. Both are near Arras. In the Nord go to Masnières which is near Cambrai.

Let us also not forget that the Canadians, like other nations, are commemorated on a plaque in Amiens Cathedral.
