SCOTLAND
Scottish visitors can
concentrate on Beaumont Hamel and Longueval before visiting other
places of interest. In Beaumont Hamel’s Canadian memorial park, containing
trenches, monuments and cemeteries, there
is the impressive memorial to the 51st Highland Division
who captured the area in 1916. At what was known as Sunken Lane stands
the Celtic Cross memorial. This was unveiled in 1923.
Scottish visitors can also make their way to the village of Contalmaison to view the
Cairn set up in the memory of the 16th Royal Scots battalion. It stands next to
the church
