SCOTLAND

Scottish visitors can concentrate on Beaumont Hamel and Longueval before visiting other places of interest. In Beaumont Hamel’s Canadian memorial park, containing trenches, monuments and cemeteries,  there is the impressive memorial to the 51st Highland Division  who captured the area in 1916. At what was known as Sunken Lane stands the Celtic Cross memorial. This was unveiled in 1923.

A visit to the South African memorial park at Longueval brings us to the beautiful piper memorial. This area was captured by the 9th Scottish Division in July 1916 and this monument was unveiled in 2002. Not to be missed are the High Wood memorials: the Glasgow Highlander Cairn and also the Cameron Highlanders and Black Watch memorial.
Scottish visitors can also make their way to the village of Contalmaison to view the
Cairn set up in the memory of the 16th Royal Scots battalion. It stands next to
 the church
