WALES
Mametz Wood is the place the Welsh need to see. Here soldiers from all over
Wales fought bravely in a five day battle to gain the wood. Now you can pay your
respects in the Church in Mametz (but you may need to go to the town hall (mairie)
for a key to open it up) where a plaque in Welsh commemorates the Welsh troops.
Nearby in Mametz Wood is the inspiring red iron Welsh Dragon statue facing the
wood as the Welsh soldiers did. Follow signs in Welsh to find it! This statue
was unveiled in 1987 and there is also a memorial seat nearby.
