Welcome

Welcome to our website Somme-Trench-Museum. We have revamped our two original sites that were in French and English and have added a third site in German. This is all in keeping with our new trilingual approach at the museum. Labels and texts are to be in English, French and German. I am grateful to Paula Flanagan Kesteloot for her work in creating and translating texts for the three websites and the museum. She offered her services on a voluntary basis and we were happy to make the most of them.

On this website we have gathered a wide range of information to enable you to make the most of your visit to the Somme, whether you are from the Antipodes, beyond the Atlantic, southern Africa, Ireland or the United Kingdom. Just click on the relevant flag to obtain information about the regiments you are interested in.

And, of course, we hope to see you in our museum, built in a series of underground passages built to shelter Albert’s citizens in WW2. For they were a people who already knew the horror of war, determined to be better prepared after the events of 1914-1918 which left the town in ruins, with only 19 families remaining.

Our museum evokes the grim reality of trench warfare in WW1, for our town was at the very heart of the Battle of the Somme in which so many suffered and gave their lives.

After your visit to our museum you may wish to make the most of our dining / conference area next to the boutique and use our internet facility. Films can also be viewed after your visit.

You can book a visit by telephone / fax or email. Simply click on Prices/Opening Times for the relevant information to help you plan your trip.

We look forward to your visit!

Mr Thierry GOURLIN

President of The Somme Trench  Museum.
